Religion in Ancient Egypt

1. What types of religious beliefs did the people in Ancient Egypt have?
One of their beliefs was Divine Kingship. This was the belief that the pharaoh was the king, but also a god. They also believed in the afterlife. They believe that the body had to be preserved in a hollow place. Kings were mummified, and then layed in pyramids. They also believed in a book called "Book of the Dead", a book of spells and prayers. They believed that the book was a way to get into the afterlife. When things in Egypt went well, Egyptians believed that the pharaoh and priest did their jobs well. When things didn't go well, they believed the pharaoh and priest were to blame. Egyptians believed that when a pharaoh dies he becomes an Osiris, and would help them in their afterlife.
2. How did they celebrate their religion?
The Egyptains celebrated their religion by worshiping their gods and building them temples. Women played an important role in temple worship. Women would sing, dance and play music. A hymn to the goddess Hathor, the wife of Horus, was found on her temple walls.
3. How is it similar/different from our religion?
Differences
Egyptians believe in many gods and goddesses. We believe in our one, true, God. Also, we praise God in Churches, Egyptians praise their gods in temples. Egyptians believe that when a pharaoh dies he becomes an Osiris, and would help them in the afterlife. We don't believe that. We believe that when we die, we go to heaven. God helps us get there.
Similarities
Egyptians had priests in their time. Today we have priests also. Egyptians also had riturals when a family member, friend, or complete stranger died. This is like a present day funeral. We both believe in eternal life, but Catholics believe in it defferently. That way is similar and different.
Egyptian god Osiris was the god of the dead, and ruler of the underworld. It was believed that when you dies, Osiris gave you a gift of barley. A temple was built in Abydos in honor of Osris. He was married to Egyptian goddess, Isis. Isis was a protective goddess. She used magic spells to help people in need.
Another Egyptian god is Atum. It is believed that Atum is the first god to exist on earth. Ancient Egyptians believed that Atum rose from the waters of chaos and created all of the gods.

Hi Religion Team!
I'm glad to see that you have been including your sources. I'm not sure about the karenswhimsey.com site. What did you use it for? Also, be sure that you copy the web address from the page you get the information. You also need to include the title of the page. I know this is confusing. I'll demonstrate in class next week.

You said that when the king died, he would become an Osiris. Do you know who (or what) Osiris is? Do we believe in an afterlife? Is it like the Egyptian's belief?

There is more information you can research about Religion in Ancient Egypt. The questions Mrs. Olsen and I posted were to be used as a guide. If you came across other information besides the answers to those questions in your research, I encourage you to add it to the page.
Also, the vocabulary you added is very good, but not all of the words were included in the information you posted on your page above it. Is there any way you can include more information so we can see why you included these words? For example, I can see why you chose to define the Book of the Dead, but not why you chose to define Geb. If you include some information about Geb and why it is relevant to the Religion, the audience will have a better understanding.
